Seawolf Door Gunner

This was a piece I did for my relative- his father was a chopper crewman in Vietnam. I could not post this in November because the figure was a surprise gift.  He was a Navy man, in an unique unit called the Seawolves.  They were an attack squadron that supported the brown river navy and the seal teams in the river delta regions of Vietnam.  I use the Verlinden 120mm chopper crewman.  They essentially wore the same uniforms while on combat patrol.  For more on the Seawolves, check this link:

Big Red One

The beginnings of a new figure...  Alpine Miniatures 1st Infantry Division.  The collector wanted to use the BAR gunner's head and so I have been working away on that one...   The head is a good match. A little more work and the head will be done.

Work Commences

I started working on he Nuts Planet 101 Airborne half figure.  Cleanup is nearly done.  One tricky part is attaching the sling to the M1 Garand rifle. The rifle and M1907 sling are resin.  In my experience, these parts break off easily.
I decided to replace the swivels with copper wire and brass tubing.  The wire is supplied in the kit.  It is meant to be used for the equipment hangers on the utility belt.
I cut off the kit swivels on the rifle and rings on the sling.  I cut the rings off the ends of the sling- both the short and long sections.  I then cut two pieces of 0.7mm brass tube to a length just smaller than the sling.  I glued the brass tube on the rifle.  Then it was a case of bending the brass wire to shape and putting all the parts back together.

Next on Deck!

Here is the start of the new Nuts Planet 101 Airborne.  Its  a super bust- or half figure.  It depicts Damian Lewis from the Band of Brothers series.  Cleanup of the parts is going smoothly.   More pictures soon!

Growing Grass.........

I started on the base for the SS Squad leader.  Its a John Jeffries product, and I used Celluclay , white glue, pigment, dirt for the base groundwork.  While it was wet, I cut the bristles off of some cheapo chip brushes and "planted" the bristles to simulate grass...  Then some color with green and brown give it some life.

Bonehead Models 200mm SS Squad leader

Here is the new project.  It's Mike Good's Bonehead models SS squad leader. It's a biggie, 200mm.   I am painting this with a fall color Plane Tree pattern smock.  Its slow going because of the sheer size.  Excellent model- fit and sculpting is top notch.......
